Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy of mistaken identity
Although the twins Viola and Sebastian think each other has been killed in a tempest, they are both alive and well in the fantastical land of Illyria. A series of hilarious instances of mistaken identity occur, resulting in several passionate love triangles. Added to the mix are the land’s eccentric characters such as Sir Toby Belch and Sir Andrew Aguecheek, not to mention the ridiculous Malvolio and the jester Feste. Altogether this makes for one of Shakespeare’s funniest and most popular comedies.
In a newly abridged version by Ruth Hewitt (abridger and director of LRP’s recent Macbeth), the play is suitable for all ages, accessible and highly entertaining.
Performances will take place at The Broadbent Theatre, Wickenby, – a gem of a small Edwardian theatre in the heart of rural Lincolnshire – on Thursday 4th June, Friday 5th June, Saturday 6th June and Sunday 7th June (matinee).
So, come along for some heartfelt moments of grief, anger, love and, above all, comedy. Truly a larger-than-life experience that will have you crying with laughter.
